Plug in the Samson Go mic to a free USB port and make sure the side switch is set to the top setting which is the Cardiod directivity pattern. This will ensure that you pickup most sound from the front of the microphone, which has "Samson" written on it.Download and install the free Audacity audio recording software here: audacity.sourceforge.netFire up Audacity and set it up as follows:
1. Set the input gain to 0.50 by double clicking on the slider
2. Set the input device to the Samson GoMic
3. Set the number of input channels to 1 (Mono) Input Channel
Make a recording
Place the microphone on your windowsill, making sure the front of the microphone is facing the street. Press the record button of Audacity and make a short recording. If everything has gone to plan you should be able to playback your test recording and hear the sounds of your city.
